When permitted development rights are removed
Some properties in Norwich don’t have the usual permitted development rights. This means you might need planning permission for work that would normally be allowed without it.
What you need to do
Before starting any building work, it’s your responsibility to check if your property still has permitted development rights. You can do this by looking at the planning history of the site.
How to check the planning history
For records from 28 November 2005 onwards:
- Visit the planning public access website.
For older records (before 28 November 2005):
- Email the planning team at planning@norwich.gov.uk with the subject line “Planning History”. Include the full address of the property.
There is a fee for this service. See pre-application advice service for details.
Viewing planning decisions
You can also view planning decisions in person at City Hall dbetween the hours of 09:00 - 16:00 (excluding Wednesday mornings and bank holidays).
