Apply for or cancel a postal vote

Whether you're updating your details or choosing to vote by post for the first time, it's now easier than ever to apply online. Read on to find out how to apply, renew or cancel your postal vote.

What is a postal vote?

A postal vote lets you vote from home instead of going to a polling station. You can choose to vote by post for all elections or just specific ones (like general elections).

Apply online for a postal vote

You can now apply online for a postal vote. You must be registered to vote before you can apply for a postal vote.

Apply for a postal vote

As with registering to vote, we'll need to confirm your identity before we can process your postal vote application. You'll need this information to complete the application:

  • the address where you are registered to vote
  • your National Insurance number or other identity documents, for example a passport

You’ll also need to upload a photo of your handwritten signature in black ink on plain white paper.

If you cannot provide a signature or one that always looks the same, you may be able to apply for a postal vote with signature waiver.

You might be asked for extra documents to identify you.

Apply for a postal vote using a paper form

If you want to apply for a postal vote using a paper application form, download a postal vote application form

You should then either:

  • email your completed form (as an attachment) to elections@norwich.gov.uk
  • or send it by post to Elections Office, Norwich City Council, St Peters Street, Norwich, NR2 1NH
