Overview

Responsible for shaping and delivering the council’s overall strategic direction, ensuring effective communication across all channels, and driving initiatives that foster cultural engagement and community participation.

Oversees initiatives that align with community priorities, ensuring services are inclusive, accessible, and support sustainable outcomes for long-term social and cultural wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

  • Internal and external communications  leads strategic communications to ensure clear, consistent messaging across all audiences.
  • Corporate strategy  oversees development and alignment of corporate priorities and long-term planning.
  • Corporate performance  manages performance frameworks to monitor delivery against strategic objectives.
  • Consultation and engagement developing frameworks and toolkits to ensure the council hears and understands the views of our communities.
  • Sport and leisure  supports access to sport and leisure opportunities that promote health and wellbeing.
  • Tourism  develops strategies to attract visitors and support the local visitor economy.
  • Arts, culture and heritage  champions cultural development and heritage preservation across the city.
  • Events  oversees planning and delivery of civic and community events that foster engagement.
  • Neighbourhoods and community enabling  supports neighbourhood-level initiatives and empowers communities to take action locally.
  • Equalities  ensures equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded across council services and policies.
