Provides strategic leadership in governance, legal compliance, and democratic services. As Monitoring Officer, ensures lawful decision-making and robust governance. Oversees legal services and leads on data protection and transparency.
Oversees councillor development, election management, and executive support, while leading civic initiatives that promote local pride and represent the Lord Mayor.
Key responsibilities
- Monitoring officer – carries statutory responsibility for ensuring lawful decision-making and governance across the council.
- Information governance – oversees data protection, freedom of information, and records management to ensure compliance and transparency.
- nplaw contract lead – manages the council’s legal services contract with nplaw, ensuring effective legal support and value for money.
- Democratic services – supports the democratic process, including council meetings, committees, and member services.
- Member development – leads programmes to support councillor training, development, and engagement.
- Elections – oversees the planning and delivery of local and national elections, ensuring integrity and accessibility.
- Executive support – manages support services for senior leadership, enabling effective decision-making and coordination.
- Civic team – leads the civic office and supports the Lord Mayor and civic events, promoting local pride and representation.
