The Head of Environment Services is responsible for overseeing and strategically guiding a broad portfolio of public-facing services that directly impact the quality of life in the community. This role ensures that environmental operations are efficient, sustainable, and aligned with the council’s wider goals for urban wellbeing, civic pride, and environmental stewardship.

Key responsibilities

  • Parks and Open Spaces – maintaining green spaces, play areas, and recreational grounds for public enjoyment and biodiversity.
  • Allotments – supporting community access to growing spaces and promoting local food production.
  • Cemeteries – ensuring respectful and well-managed burial grounds and memorial spaces.
  • Parking and Civil Enforcement – managing parking services and enforcing regulations to support traffic flow and accessibility.

Oliver Furbur (interim)

  • Waste and Recycling – overseeing household waste collection, recycling services, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Street Cleaning – managing the cleanliness of public streets, footpaths, and urban spaces to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
