Overview

Responsible for leading and maintaining robust financial governance frameworks and overseeing strategic financial operations that safeguard the council’s financial integrity, ensure effective risk management, and drive forward its commercial aspirations. This includes aligning financial planning with long-term organisational goals, supporting sustainable investment decisions, and enabling innovation.

Key responsibilities

  • Finance business partners, transactions and systems – oversees financial operations, systems, and business partnering to support service delivery and decision-making.
  • Corporate finance, treasury management and tax – leads on corporate financial planning, treasury activities, and tax compliance to ensure financial sustainability and statutory adherence.
  • Internal and external audit – coordinates audit activities to provide assurance on financial controls and Statement of Accounts.
  • Risk management – oversees the council’s risk management framework, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, and mitigated effectively.
