Do you want to see change in your community? Petitions are a powerful way for you and your neighbours to let Norwich City Council know what matters most. Whether it’s about local services, community spaces, or council policies, your collective voice can spark real action.
How to get involved
Anyone who lives, works, or studies in Norwich can start or sign a petition. Here’s how it works:
- Identify the issue: what’s the change you want to see? Write a clear, concise statement about the issue and what action you want the council to take.
- Gather support: collect at least 50 signatures from people who live, work, or study in Norwich. The more, the better!
- Submit your petition: you can send your petition as a hard copy or as an e-petition. Email it to DemocraticServices@norwich.gov.uk at least five working days before the next council meeting.
- Stay connected: include your contact details so the council can keep you updated and guide you on presenting your petition at a council meeting.
What happens next?
- Acknowledgement: you’ll receive a response within 10 working days.
- Presentation: you may be invited to present your petition at a full council meeting - an opportunity to speak directly to decision-makers.
- Action: the council will consider your petition and let you know what steps will be taken.
What can’t be petitioned?
- planning, licensing, or similar applications
- issues already petitioned in the last six months
- matters with existing appeal rights (like council tax banding)
- petitions that are abusive or inappropriate
