Burial options at Earlham Cemetery
At Earlham Cemetery, Norwich City Council offers a range of burial choices to suit different beliefs, traditions and family wishes.
Families can choose to hold a service in our peaceful chapel (seating up to 60 people) or opt for a graveside ceremony.
New graves
You can choose a new grave that holds:
- up to two full burials
- up to six sets of ashes
This allows families to be laid to rest together in one place.
Historic graves
We also have older graves that were used in the past but still have space. These weren’t originally leased, so they can now be used again. Depending on how deep they are and how they were used before, there may be room for one or two more burials.
Cemetery sections
Earlham Cemetery is thoughtfully divided to respect different preferences:
- Consecrated areas (marked with numbers): for Christian burials, blessed by the Church.
- Unconsecrated areas (marked with letters): for non-religious burials.
- Faith-specific sections: for different religions and cultural traditions.
This approach helps us care for the cemetery respectfully and sustainably, while giving families meaningful choices for their loved ones.
Please note: The council does not operate a crematorium, but a privately run one is located within Earlham Cemetery grounds.
