Norwich is full of amazing residents and groups who volunteer their time to transform green spaces into vibrant, welcoming places for everyone. Want to join them? Norwich City Council is here to help you make it happen.

Why get involved?

Community gardens and shared spaces bring people together, improve wellbeing, and make our neighbourhoods greener and friendlier. Whether it’s a small patch of land or a larger park area, your efforts can make a big difference.

How to start

  1. See if there’s a community garden near you
Check out our map of community gardens across the city on Get Talking Norwich. There may be one in your area that you’d like to get involved in.
  2. Get permission first
If you’ve noticed a space you’d like to improve and want to set up your own community garden, then we’re here to help you. Before you begin, you’ll need approval from the landowner. If the space belongs to Norwich City Council (like many housing estates and parks), simply fill out our quick Expression of Interest form.
  3. We’ll review your plans
We will work with you to check that your ideas are safe, keep public access open, and have community support.

What happens next?

If approved, we’ll work with you to choose the best approach. This may be through a licence agreement for areas where you will take on the responsibility of maintaining the planting and we can let you get on with your plans, or we might suggest a longer term ‘friends of’ model where we build a partnership to improve a space together.:
