How to request a refund if you think you've overpaid, what you’ll need and what to expect from the process.
How to request a refund
If you have overpaid Council Tax and your account is in credit, you can apply for a refund.
If you pay by Direct Debit, you don’t need to do anything. We’ll automatically refund the money to the bank account we’ve been using.
Important - refunds can only be made to the person who pays the bill.
If you owe Council Tax to Norwich City Council, we may use your credit to reduce that debt.
What you’ll need before you start
- your Council Tax account number (top right of your bill)
- the amount you’re claiming
- your bank account details.
If someone is claiming on your behalf, a Power of Attorney must be registered or uploaded.
