Norwich: a city of culture and stories
Welcome to Norwich – England’s first UNESCO City of Literature and one of only 20 in the world! That’s a pretty special title, and we wear it proudly.
Culture around every corner
Norwich is bursting with creativity. We’ve got:
- galleries, theatres, and live venues for every taste
- a puppet theatre that delights all ages
- festivals that light up the city year-round
- stunning historic landmarks like two cathedrals (Norwich Cathedral and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist) and a majestic Norman Castle
- beautiful parks and green spaces
- a fantastic mix of restaurants, shops and the quirky Norwich Lanes

How we support culture
We work closely with Arts Council England, local businesses, and cultural organisations to keep Norwich’s creative spirit thriving. Through grants and partnerships, we support everything from the Norfolk & Norwich Festival and the National Centre for Writing to Refugee Week and Heritage Open Days.
Our Culture and Events team is here to help community groups and cultural organisations with advice, support, and funding. We also run a programme of free public events to bring people together and celebrate what makes Norwich unique.
