Street trading in Norwich city centre

If you're thinking about trading in Norwich city centre, here's what you need to know:

Where you can trade

Norwich City Council has designated all streets within the inner ring road as either:

  • consent streets
  • licensed streets
  • prohibited streets

This means you must get permission from the Council before trading in these areas.

We’ve also identified 22 specific street trading pitches across the city centre.

These spots are carefully chosen based on space and surroundings, so they have some limitations.

Please note - these pitches are not suitable for food trucks.

Want to trade in the city centre?

You’ll need to:

  • complete a street trading application form
  • get approval from Norwich City Council - if approved, we will issue you with a 1-year trading licence and consent at a cost of £15 per day.

Trading outside the ring road?

You’ll need to contact the local authority responsible for that area. See who this is.

Trading on private land?

You can trade on private land with the landowner’s permission - no need to contact the Council, as long as:

  • the land is genuinely private
  • it’s not subject to public trading restrictions

Pitch rules and requirements

All approved pitches must follow these rules:

  • stall size: max 3m (L) × 2m (D) × 2.25m (H)
  • insurance: you must have at least £5 million public liability insurance
  • generators are not allowed
  • boundaries: stay within your pitch and clear everything at the end of the day (no overnight storage)
  • food vans/trucks are not permitted on these pitches
