Nature projects and partnerships

We’re collaborating with groups across the city to lead and coordinate nature recovery in Norwich.

NatureCityNorwich

We’ve partnered with Norfolk Wildlife Trust, South Norfolk & Broadland District Council and Norfolk County Council to deliver the ‘NatureCityNorwich’ project over the next 3 years to 2028.

Utilising £775k in funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund, this project will co-create a community-led urban nature recovery action plan, placing nature and people at the heart of Norwich’s future.

The project will map and address the city’s ‘nature gaps’, improve access to green and blue spaces, and empower communities to shape a more resilient, biodiverse and inclusive city.

Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS)

Norfolk County Council are leading the development of a Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Norfolk, with support from neighbouring local authorities including Norwich City Council.

We have been consulted on the strategy development and mapping, helping to ensure it provides a robust plan for nature recovery at landscape scale. As the city council, our aim is to extend this further by bringing nature into the city, creating an urban Nature Recovery Network (uNRN).

Norwich Fringe Project

A key partner of the council, Norwich Fringe Project work with volunteers and local communities to look after the countryside and nature spaces around Norwich, including Kett’s Heights, Whitlingham Marsh and UEA Marsh/Fen.

Other partnerships

Norwich City Council recently supported The Common Lot’s nature-based theatre production, titled ‘Mousehold to the Marsh’. The show, which was performed to an estimated five thousand people across Norwich green spaces in July 2025, centred around valuing and protecting nature across the city. Aligned to the council’s aims, this has helped to mobilise a conversation around nature in Norwich and we are supporting the project’s legacy.

Our friends at Norfolk & Waveney Mind have been helping to connect people with nature for improved resilience, mental health and wellbeing, through their ‘Nature Connect’ project. Events and activities offered through this project include forest bathing, nature gardening workshops and guided walks.
