What to do about noise from roadworks, transport and vehicles

Who to contact to report noise issues caused by roadworks and transport including cars, railways and aircraft.

How to report other types of noise

Noise from trains

If train noise is bothering you, contact the train company directly:

Noise from aircraft

We can’t help with aircraft noise. Here’s who to contact:

Civil aircraft (like commercial planes)

Go to the UK Civil Aviation Authority website to make a complaint.

Military aircraft (like fighter jets)

Police helicopters

Call the police on 101.

Loud music from cars

If someone is playing loud music from a car in a public place, call the police.

Noise from roadworks or street activity

We can’t deal with noise from people or traffic in the street.

Roadworks are sometimes allowed at night to avoid traffic problems. The workers should keep noise as low as possible, but some noise is legal and can’t be avoided.

If the roadworks are too noisy or unreasonable, report it to Norfolk County Council’s Highway Department.
