Council tenants

How to dispose of asbestos
To get asbestos removed, contact a licensed contractor through the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association or Yellow Pages.

Advice for businesses
Businesses must check for asbestos in their buildings and, if found, take steps to remove it safely.
If you're unsure what to do, contact the authority responsible for enforcing health and safety laws. If you don’t know who that is, use our contact us form.

Working with asbestos
- Use a licensed contractor for any work involving asbestos, unless it’s a low-risk material like asbestos cement.
- Licensed contractors must notify us before starting work and get approval for how they plan to do the job.
- For low-risk asbestos work, contractors should do their own risk assessment before starting.
- Follow safety guidelines.
- Dispose of asbestos waste at licensed sites or through licensed contractors.
