What is a Smoke Control Area?
Smoke Control Areas are created through Smoke Control Orders. These rules aim to reduce air pollution by limiting the use of solid fuel-burning fires (like coal or wood) in homes.
In a Smoke Control Area you may only use:
- smokeless fuels
- a smoke-free (exempt) appliance that is designed to burn fuel without producing smoke
When these areas were set up
- King Street – 1968
- Norwich Airport and Bowthorpe – 1972
