Christmas and New Year closure information
Our council offices and phone lines will close at 4pm on Wednesday 24 December and reopen at 9am on Monday 5 January 2026.
See our service arrangements for customers during this time.
Direct Debit is one of the most cost-effective ways to pay your bills. It makes it easier to manage regular payments such as Council Tax or rent.
We want to encourage more people to pay by Direct Debit. This helps reduce our processing costs, so more of the money we collect can be used to provide local services.
Now is a good time to set up a Direct Debit, before your next annual Council Tax or Business Rates bill, rent statement or other charges are issued.
Once your Direct Debit is set up, you do not need to do anything else. Payments are taken automatically from your bank account, and we will always tell you in advance if the amount or payment date changes.
You are also protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee if anything goes wrong.
With a choice of payment dates and several ways to sign up, paying by Direct Debit is quick and simple.
We are reducing how much we spend on postage so we can invest more in local services. If you choose an e-bill, it will be available on your online account to view whenever you need it.
In March 2026, we will be sending out annual bills. As a digital-first council, we want to encourage more people to switch to e-billing, which helps cut costs and makes it easier to manage your bills online.
You can sign up for paperless billing online:
