Domestic abuse and violence

Domestic abuse can affect anyone, and asking for help can be difficult. Our priorities are to help you to increase your safety and protect your housing security. We may be the first point of contact and will help you explore your options with care, respect and understanding.

You're not alone - and help is available

Recognising and acknowledging that a relationship is abusive can be very difficult. We understand that seeking help can be challenging, particularly when survivors face financial stress, limited housing options, and the emotional impact of abuse, which can make things feel overwhelming.

All staff receive training on domestic abuse, and we will work with you to help you access the support you need.

How we support you

We offer a whole housing approach, which means we provide different types of housing support based on your needs and choices.

Whether you want to stay in your current home or move somewhere new, our goal is to help you feel safe and supported.

What you can expect

  • kind and trained staff who listen and understand
  • private interviews separate from the person who harmed you
  • personal safety plans and housing advice tailored to you
  • emergency housing like refuges if you need to leave quickly
  • help with home security if you choose to stay where you are.

Moving within or outside Norwich

Home safety

If you want to stay in your home, we offer a Sanctuary Scheme to help make your home safer.

Note: You’ll need a referral from a professional (like a support worker or council team).

To apply, fill in a referral form.

If you feel you need help from the scheme, but are not working with a professional, contact Norfolk Integrated Domestic Abuse Service (NIDAS) in any of the following ways.

They’ll assess your situation and refer you to us if needed:

Tel: 0300 561 0555

Text: 07860 063 464

Out of hours: 0808 2000 247

Email: referrals@nidasnorfolk.co.uk

Financial help

We manage a Safe at Home budget to help pay for things like locks, alarms, or other security upgrades. You might also qualify for help with:

  • rent deposits
  • programs that help save money
  • home swaps (only if it’s safe and suitable)

We always look at your situation individually and may work with specialist services like IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisors) to make sure you get the right support.
