Medical, dangerous and DIY waste

Ways to dispose of waste that must not go in your bins.

  • medical waste (like bandages or needles)
  • dangerous waste (like paint or chemicals)
  • DIY waste (like bricks or tiles)

Getting rid of medical waste (like bandages and dressings)

If a doctor or nurse gives you treatment at home, they will help you get rid of any medical waste.

Getting rid of sharps (needles)

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on where to safely dispose of sharps, residents are advised to contact the NHS or their healthcare provider directly.

Getting rid of paint and other dangerous waste

If your paint is still good, try giving it to a friend or offering it on websites like Freegle or Gumtree

If you can’t give it away:

  • take the lid of
  • let the paint dry out (you can add cat litter to help)
  • once dry, put the can in your general waste bin

Every autumn, there are special days where you can take dangerous waste to a recycling centre for free. Check the Norfolk County Council website for dates.
