Our council offices and phone lines will close at 4pm on Wednesday 24 December and reopen at 9am on Monday 5 January 2026.

Norwich has been recognised for having a safe, fun and well-managed city centre at night. In 2017, it was awarded Purple Flag status — a national award that shows the city offers a great experience after dark.
The city council works with the police and other groups to reduce problems caused by the night-time economy. Together, they’ve introduced several measures:
Since August 2015, businesses applying for a licence to sell alcohol or serve food between 9pm and 6am in the Prince of Wales Road area must show they won’t add to anti-social behaviour. This helps keep the area safe and enjoyable for everyone.
