Who looks after roads and pavements?
The County Council is responsible for most maintenance and safety issues on public roads and pavements. If you notice a problem, they’re the ones to contact.
Report roads and pavements issues (Norfolk County Council)
Here are some of the things they take care of:
- potholes – holes or cracks in the road surface
- gritting – spreading salt to prevent ice in cold weather
- dropped kerbs – lowered pavement edges for easier access
- damaged pavements – broken or uneven surfaces
- trees and hedges – trimming or removing those that block roads or paths
- obstructions and spillages – clearing things that block or dirty the road
- road markings – repainting faded or missing lines
- road signs and traffic lights – fixing faults or damage
- blocked drains and flooding – clearing water or debris
- A-boards – managing advertising boards on pavements
- manhole covers – repairing or replacing damaged ones
- heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and abnormal loads – managing large or unusual transport
- licences for hoardings, scaffolding and skips – giving permission for temporary structures on public land
