Holding a community litter pick is a fun and satisfying activity with an immediate positive impact on your neighbourhood. If you are organising a community litter pick there are several ways we can help you get started.
From sets of adult kits, kits for children and individual litter pickers or handi hoops, we have the kit you need, all available to borrow on LUMi.
Guidance for running a litter pick
When you do the litter pick, you should consider a basic risk assessment which doesn’t need to be complicated but covers anything that might come up as a hazard/risk during a litter pick and the safeguards you have in place.
Key things to be aware of
If you find any sharps/discarded syringe or needle in a public place:
- do not touch it
- if possible, carefully cover it e.g. with a cone or a box
- report it to us immediately
Out of hours: If you are reporting this after 4pm on Monday to Friday, over the weekend, on a bank holiday or public holiday, please call 01603 412180.
Any fly-tipping items should be left where they are and reported.
