To support national efforts to reduce roadside pollution, Norwich City Council submits taxi and private hire vehicle (PHV) licence data to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
This is a legal requirement under the Air Quality (Taxi and Private Hire Vehicles Database) (England and Wales) Regulations 2019, and forms part of the government’s Clean Air Zone (CAZ) strategy.
Why this matters
The database helps licensing authorities identify and, where applicable, charge vehicles licensed in other areas that operate within their Clean Air Zones.
What information is shared
The following data is submitted and retained for seven years:
- vehicle registration number
- vehicle licence plate number
- licence start and expiry dates
- type of vehicle licence
- wheelchair accessibility status
Data protection
All data is processed and shared in line with the Data Protection Act (DPA) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
