1. Change of address
Keep your address up to date so the council can contact you.
You’ll need to pay a fee and will get an updated licence.
Don’t forget to update your address with the DVLA too.
2. Change of name
If your name changes (e.g. marriage or deed poll), let the council know.
Upload proof (like a marriage certificate).
Update your name with the DVLA as well.
3. Change of vehicle registration
If you get a new number plate (private or personalised), tell the council.
Upload your updated DVLA documents and insurance certificate.
A fee applies, and you’ll get a new licence.

4. Lost or damaged licence items
If your licence plate, driver badge, or licence document is lost or damaged, you can request a replacement.
A fee applies, and you’ll get a new one.
5. Apply for a vehicle licence transfer (new owner or vehicle)
You can apply to transfer your hackney carriage or private hire vehicle licence online. You will need to submit any supporting documents and pay the correct fee.
Before you begin the online application, please ensure you have the following documents (if applicable*) available for uploading:
- Licence reference number
- V5 vehicle registration document
- Vehicle insurance certificate (for public or private hire as appropriate)
- Taxi test
- Confirmation of vehicle purchase date
- MOT certificate*
- LOLER certificate*

6. Other changes
- If something else changes that’s not listed above, you’ll need to fill out a full application form.
