Leader of Norwich City Council, Councillor Mike Stonard and Councillor Carli Harper, cabinet member for finance and major projects, were joined by David Epstein of investment partner Aviva Capital Partners and Richard Jones of DSM Contractors to watch the hard demolition stage of the redevelopment of Anglia Square swing into action.
Cllr Stonard said: “It’s great to see hard demo work get underway. It hammers home the message that we’re moving fast to build a better Anglia Square for all.”
David Epstein, Managing Director of Aviva Capital Partners, said: "The start of demolition is a big moment for Anglia Square and for the future of this site. It’s exciting to see our plans take physical shape. We’re committed to delivering a development that brings lasting value to Norwich through new homes and new opportunities."
DSM Contractors reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the local economy by prioritising the use of local labour and regional expertise on the Anglia Square demolition project in Norwich.
As part of this commitment, DSM has partnered with Eastern Demolition, a local subcontractor, to deliver key elements of the works.
Richard Jones, Business Development Director, said: “At DSM, we believe that major regeneration projects should deliver benefits beyond the construction site.
“By working with trusted local partners like Eastern Demolition Ltd, we’re not only supporting local jobs and businesses but also helping to strengthen the skills base within the community. This approach ensures the Anglia Square redevelopment leaves a positive and lasting legacy for Norwich and the wider region.”
The redevelopment of Anglia Square is being led by the investment partnership between Aviva Capital Partners and Norwich City Council with funding from Homes England.
Pauline Schaffer, Director, Infrastructure Funding at Homes England, said: “It is excellent to see the development of Anglia Square take a step closer to the delivery of much needed homes. This is a significant moment for the Anglia Square project and an excellent example of how we are helping local authority partners, through the Housing Infrastructure Fund, to create thriving places people can be proud of."
It will deliver 1,100 new homes, with 50 percent affordable in the first two phases, plus a range of retail spaces, community and leisure facilities. The demolition stage of the Anglia Square development will continue over the coming months finishing in spring 2026 then paving the way for building work.
