Have your say on the future of air quality in Norwich

Blue skies over the city of Norwich

Norwich City Council has launched a public consultation on its Draft Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP) 2026–2031 and is asking residents, businesses, and visitors to share their views before Monday 30 March 2026.

This plan sets out how we’ll continue to improve air quality across the city over the next five years. It builds on the progress we’ve made since 2020, which saw cleaner buses introduced, more cycling options, and greater awareness of air pollution.

We’ve included seven priority areas in the draft plan to tackle air pollution and protect health. These focus on cleaner public transport, expanding electric vehicle infrastructure, reducing road congestion, promoting walking and cycling, tackling emissions from domestic burning, decarbonising heating in homes, and raising public awareness.

Councillor Emma Hampton, cabinet member for climate and environment at Norwich City Council, said:

“Air pollution can harm everyone’s health, especially children, older people, and those with existing conditions. Cleaner air means healthier lives and a better environment for everyone who lives, works, or visits Norwich. This new plan sets out how we’ll continue to make Norwich a cleaner, healthier city - and we’ll continue to collaborate with our colleagues in Norfolk County Council highways to combine efforts and achieve even greater results. Please take part in the consultation and help us shape the future of air quality in Norwich.”

Councillor Graham Plant, Norfolk County Council cabinet member for highways, infrastructure and transport, said:

“We’re making real progress in cleaner, more sustainable travel options, which is a major part in tackling air pollution in Norwich. With the introduction of 76 fully electric buses already, and more to come this year, the rollout of on street electric vehicle charge points across the city, and the continued growth of the Beryl shared mobility scheme it’s getting easier all the time for people to choose cleaner ways to get around.”

The consultation is open until Monday 30 March 2026. You can complete the online survey – it only takes a few minutes – or pick up a paper survey at local libraries.

Your feedback will help shape the final plan, which we’ll publish later this year.
