Norwich’s skatepark improvements have hit new milestones this week, with Heartsease now fully open and Eaton Park work underway.
Designs for both parks were included in public consultation last year which included an online survey and in-person events.
Thanks to ideas and feedback from local riders, the updated Eaton design incorporates key changes requested during consultation, ensuring both parks truly reflect the needs, creativity and ambitions of the communities who use them.
Councillor Emma Hampton, Norwich City Council’s cabinet member for parks and open spaces, said: “These upgrades are about more than just new ramps and rails — they reflect our commitment to building a healthier, more inclusive, and connected Norwich.
“By creating accessible, creative spaces shaped by the community, we’re supporting active lifestyles, strengthening social ties, and making smart use of investment to deliver long‑term value for residents.”
Heartsease: ready to roll
The upgraded skate area at Heartsease Recreation Ground is now complete and open for use.
The new mini ramp with smooth concrete pool coping, combined with the roller‑skating loop and flowing layout, is already attracting users of all ages and skill levels.
Stuart Maclure, Development Manager at Betongpark, said:
“The new wheeled sports facility at Heartsease is a special project for us and one that’s full of character. The hand‑finished concrete skatepark was inspired by the heritage of former concrete parks in the local area. Local users were central to the design, which includes a sunken pool with custom concrete pool blocks akin to the Californian backyard swimming pools of the 1970s.
“Surrounding the skatepark is a covered shelter, seating, and a rollerskate loop. The park also links visually and stylistically with other newly refurbished sites, including Greenfields mini ramp and Eaton Skatepark. Now we hope for a dry spell of weather to get a chance to skate it!”
Eaton Park: new designs revealed
Construction is now underway at Eaton Park, and we’re pleased to share the updated final design, shaped directly by feedback from local riders and consultation participants. The design supports all abilities, all ages and all disciplines, and complements both the existing Eaton layout and other skateparks across Norwich. View the designs.
