Norwich children are set to enjoy a fantastic summer in the city with a new and improved splash pad at Waterloo Park.
The new splash pad will feature:
- Inclusive and accessible play areas, including facilities for wheelchair users.
- Water-efficient technology, reducing water consumption and saving an estimated £10,000–£12,000 annually.
- A fresh, vibrant design that complements the recently improved play area.
Inclusivity features include:
- Bright colours to aid visually impaired.
- Buttons and jets colour contrast.
- Large floor mounted activation buttons with light touch sensitivity.
- No standing water.
- Mixture of jets to encourage toddlers and less confident children to play with water.
- Access to the Splash Pad for all abilities.
Originally installed in 2012, the existing facility has reached the end of its lifespan and will be replaced with a modern, inclusive, and environmentally friendly design. The new Ecosplash equipment is a tried and tested product manufactured in the UK.
Work is scheduled to begin the week commencing Monday 19 January and complete in the spring. During construction, the splash pad area will be fenced off, but the play park will remain open for visitors.
Councillor Emma Hampton, Norwich City Council’s cabinet member for climate and environment, said: “Waterloo Park is an incredible asset to the city, and we know how popular the splashpad is, providing families unlimited free days out every summer.
“I am delighted that we can future proof this fantastic feature, increase its efficiency and make it more accessible so that even more children can enjoy it.
“This upgrade is another example of our commitment to enhancing and protecting the city’s green spaces, which are vital to all of our wellbeing.”
This work follows recent improvements to the wider play area, which saw the arrival of an array of new and inclusive play equipment in 2024.
