Information to help you receive support with benefits.

Money help

If you are a refugee or have special permission to stay in the UK, you can apply for financial help from the government if eligible. You must have recourse to public funds.

Bank account

  • you can open a bank account in the UK
  • some banks let you open one even if you don’t have a home address
  • if you need help, ask your housing worker or a support group

Universal Credit

To apply, go to the Jobcentre.

You can get advice from Norfolk Citizens Advice or the Jobcentre. Several refugee support organisations also offer welfare advice – please visit getting support

Refugee integration loan

This can help with:

  • paying rent
  • buying things for your home
  • school or learning
  • living costs
