City Hall

A bold new chapter for a beloved landmark. Norwich City Hall is set to evolve - not just to meet the needs of today, but to inspire the community for generations to come.

City Hall reimagined

City Hall has stood proudly in the heart of Norwich for generations - a symbol of civic pride and a much-loved landmark. But as the way we live, work, and connect evolves, so too must the spaces that serve us.

That’s why Norwich City Council is reimagining City Hall - not just to preserve its iconic heritage, but to transform it into a vibrant, inclusive, and future-ready space for everyone.

Why It matters to our community

This ambitious project isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It’s about creating a City Hall that reflects the values and needs of a modern Norwich - a place that’s open, accessible, and welcoming to all.

The proposed changes will:

  • open up new public spaces - including a welcoming ground floor and a first-floor civic area designed for community use.
  • introduce a ‘Civic Living Room’ - a dynamic venue for exhibitions, talks, events, and meetings, where residents can gather, share ideas, and celebrate local culture.
  • improve accessibility - ensuring everyone, regardless of ability, can comfortably navigate and enjoy the building.
  • create flexible workspaces - supporting modern, agile working practices that enhance collaboration and wellbeing.
  • bring light and life to underused areas - with enhanced lightwells that will host exhibitions and events.
  • boost the local economy - with increased footfall projected to generate up to £53 million for the city centre.

Preserving heritage, embracing progress

This is a thoughtful transformation - one that respects City Hall’s architectural legacy while unlocking its potential for the next century.
