Before you get a licence:
The council aims to process applications within 20 weeks.
Every licence issued will have conditions attached. The conditions vary from property to property.

The total cost is £1,141, split into two payments:
Fees are reviewed yearly and may change with inflation.
• Renewals cost the same as new applications.
• Changes (like new owners, layout, or number of tenants) must be reported.
• If the licence holder changes, a new application is needed.
• There is no fee for making changes to an existing licence.

If your property normally needs an HMO licence but you require a short-term exemption, you can request one here.
You may be eligible if, for example, the licence holder has passed away or you are actively reducing the number of occupants so the property will no longer need a licence.
