Polling District, Places and Stations review - 2019

In accordance with the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013, Norwich City Council is required to complete a full review of all polling districts and polling places every five years.

2019 Review of polling districts, places and stations

Notice of review

The purpose of the review is to ensure:

  • Voters have reasonable access to polling stations
  • Polling places are accessible to all, including disabled voters

The Acting Returning Officer (ARO) for Norwich South also submitted proposals for future arrangements.

Note: This review does not include changes to ward boundaries, divisions, or parliamentary constituencies.

Key dates

  • Review completed: September 2019
  • New arrangements effective from: 1 February 2020
  • Next electoral register published: 1 February 2020

Definitions

  • Polling District: A geographical area within a ward or constituency
  • Polling Place: The designated area where polling stations are located
  • Polling Station: The specific room or space where voting takes place (e.g. a room in a school or community centre)

How the review was conducted

  • The ARO reviewed current arrangements and submitted proposals
  • A working party of seven councillors (from all political groups) considered the proposals and public feedback
  • Final recommendations were approved at Full Council on 24 September 2019

Consultation process

The consultation periods are now closed:

  • Initial proposals: 28 June – 24 July 2019
  • Revised proposals: 26 July – 29 August 2019

Final recommendations

  • The revised polling districts and places came into effect on 1 February 2020
  • These changes apply to all elections held after this date
  • Voters were notified via poll cards ahead of any election

26 July - 29 August 2019 Consultation on revised ARO's proposals as agreed by the Polling District Review Working Party.
5 September 2019 Polling District Review Working Party to agree polling district review to recommend changes to council
24 September 2019 Full meeting of council to agree changes
1 February 2020 Register of Electors to be published with the new polling districts and agreed polling places and stations.
