What is the current political makeup of the councils?
Which seats are up for election on 7 May 2026 in Norwich City Council?
One seat in each of the city council’s 13 wards.
There is an additional seat up for election in the Wensum Ward due to the resignation of Cllr Liam Clavert.
The council elects by thirds. This means one councillor in each ward is elected every year, except one year in four when there are no city council elections.

Will there be a combined mayoral election in May 2026?
An election to elect a mayor for Norfolk and Suffolk was due to take place on Thursday 7 May 2026. The Government has delayed this election until May 2028.
Will there be a Police and Crime Commissioner election in May 2026?
The Government has announced that the role of the Police and Crime Commissioner will transfer to the new combined mayoral authority. There will be no further scheduled Police and Crime Commissioner elections.
When are the elections taking place?
Polling day for the local elections for all Norwich City Council wards and all Norfolk County Council divisions will take place on Thursday 7 May 2026.

What is the deadline to register to vote?
You must be registered to vote by 11.59pm on Monday 20 April 2026.
What is the deadline to apply for a postal vote?
The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 21 April 2026.
If you had a postal vote in place before the introduction of the Elections Act 2022, you may need to reapply by this date to continue voting by post.
What is the deadline to apply for a proxy vote?

Do I need photo ID to vote in person?
Yes. You must bring an accepted form of photo ID to vote at a polling station.

When will the list of candidates be published?
The statement of persons nominated, which lists all candidates standing in each ward and division, will be published at 4pm on Friday 10 April 2026 on the council’s website.
