About us 

Norwich City Council is committed to protecting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk of harm. 

We collect and use your information for the purposes of carrying out statutory functions under legislation relating to safeguarding, which includes Children Act 1989 and 2004, Care Act 2014, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, Local Government Act 2000, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Housing Acts 1988,1996, 2004 Domestic Abuse Act 2021.

What will we do with your data? 

Report any safeguarding concerns to the relevant authorities, to protect children, young people and adults at risk of harm, and record the actions that we have taken. In most instances we will do this with your consent and knowledge, unless by doing so this puts someone at greater risk of harm. 

Personal information that will be shared includes: 

  • name.
  • address
  • date of birth
  • contact details
  • details of any safeguarding concerns or incidents
  • information from or about family members, carers or guardians
  • ethnicity
  • relationships
  • health Information
  • education Information
  • police information
  • referral/ sssessment information
  • relevant case information
  • mental capacity information.
  • other agencies involved
  • financial information
  • risks
  • allegations and Investigations

We will retain your data for seven years post the conclusion of the concern for adults and/or child/ren, as stated in our retention policy available on our website.

What are your rights? 

You have the right to request access to your personal information to:

  • ask for errors to be corrected
  • restrict how your information is used
  • object to how it is processed;
  • request that your data is deleted

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office if you are not happy with how your data is processed.

What are the consequences of you not providing data? 

If you do not provide us with information, this may delay or prohibit access to services that can assist.  

How will we share your data?

To ensure people are safeguarded, we will share this information where relevant with:

  • local authorities and social services
  • health services
  • police
  • probation
  • 3rd sector support organisations
  • schools and other education providers.

This may also include safeguarding boards and subgroups and regulatory bodies, in order that they may carry out their statutory duties. Information provided will be shared internally with: Safeguarding Group, Housing and Community Services, to support the development of best practice.  

Apart from where previously stated, we do not pass your details to third parties unless we are lawfully able to do so for the prevention and detection of crime and fraud, or for the collection of taxes.
