CRF Housing Payments provide short‑term financial support for people experiencing extreme hardship. They can help with housing costs such as:
- rent
- rent deposits
- rent in advance
- moving costs
These payments top up any Housing Benefit or Universal Credit you receive.
CRF Housing Payments replaced Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP) from 1 April 2026.
Who can apply
You can only apply for a CRF Housing Payment if you receive either:
- Housing Benefit, or
- the housing costs element of Universal Credit
What CRF Housing Payment does not cover
You cannot use the payment for:
- Service charges that are not covered by Housing Benefit (for example fuel, water or food costs)
- Rent increases that are being used to repay rent arrears
- Rent if you do not receive Housing Benefit or the housing costs element of Universal Credit
- Any reduction in benefit due to a sanction
- Any benefit that has been suspended
