Shops, business and factories

Shops, businesses and factories are likely to generate some noise and therefore you should not expect complete silence if you live close to one.

This noise may be louder at certain times of the day or during certain activities. We won't investigate low levels of noise but please contact us if you feel the noise you are experiencing is unreasonable and affecting you.

Licensed premises such as pubs, clubs and restaurants

Licensed venues will generate some noise and therefore you should not expect silence if you live close by.

All licensed premises are permitted to have live music until 11pm. Many city centre venues have permission to play live and recorded music until after this time depending on the terms of their license.

Tell us if you feel the level of noise is unreasonable and affecting your quality of life in your property.

Construction/demolition sites

To minimise disruption, sites are expected to work within the following guidelines:

  • Work that is audible beyond the site boundary shall only be carried out between 7:30am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday, between 7:30am and 1pm Saturday and not at all on Sundays or bank holidays.
  • The quietest available items of plant and machinery shall be used on site. Equipment that is likely to cause noise, such as generators, should be enclosed or screened to reduce noise levels, if applicable.
  • Deliveries or collections (e.g. skips) shall only be permitted during the hours above.
