Improving your home - what you need to know

You must get written permission from the council before making any changes to your home.

This includes things like:

  • new flooring, kitchens or bathrooms
  • heating systems or double glazing
  • extensions, conservatories or knocking down walls
  • anything affecting gas, electricity or water
  • changes to shared areas.

Steps to take

  • call 0344 980 3333 to check if your home is part of a council upgrade
  • write to Property Services at City Hall, Norwich NR2 1NH with full details of your planned work
  • wait for written approval before starting anything.
