What is Housing Benefit?

Housing Benefit helps cover your rent if you’re on a low income.

The amount you get depends on:

• your income and savings
• who lives with you
• your family situation
• any other benefits you receive.

You can use a benefits calculator to check what you might get and see if you qualify for other support.

Who can apply?

You can apply for Housing Benefit if:

• you’ve reached state pension age
• you live in supported or sheltered housing
• you’ve been placed in temporary accommodation.

What you’ll need

• you’ll need to provide evidence (like proof of income or rent)
• you can upload this when you apply or send it later — don’t delay your application
• once we have everything, we’ll write to you with our decision

If you don’t agree with it, you can appeal.
