Norwich City Council’s Code of Conduct sets the standard for how councillors should act, ensuring they serve the community with integrity, fairness, and respect.
What is it?
The Councillors' Code of Conduct is a set of principles and rules that guide how elected members of Norwich City Council should behave while carrying out their duties. It ensures transparency, fairness, and respect in public service.
Every councillor signs up to this code when they take office - it’s a commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
What does the code cover?
Councillors are expected to:
- treat everyone with respect
- avoid bullying, harassment, or discrimination
- maintain the impartiality of council officers
- respect confidentiality and handle information responsibly
- avoid bringing the council into disrepute
- not misuse their position or council resources
- declare interests and manage conflicts transparently
- be open about gifts and hospitality
