Licensing representations privacy notice

About us

Norwich City Council is the data controller for the Licensing function within the district of Norwich and we have a legal obligation to process your personal information. You may contact our data protection and information security officer by emailing DPO@norwich.gov.uk.

What will we do with your data?

We use it to process your comments relating to licensing applications, so that we can make informed decisions. We intend to keep your data for seven years, as stated in our Retention Schedule available on our website.

What are your rights?

You have the right to request access to your personal information to:

  • ask for errors to be corrected
  • restrict how your information is used
  • object to how it is processed
  • request that your data is deleted

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office if you are not happy with how your data is processed.

What are the consequences of you not providing data?

When making a decision regarding an application for a licence, we will be unable to take your comments into consideration.

How will we share your data?

Information provided by commenting on licence applications is used to assist the licensing authority in making an informed decision regarding the application to which it relates only. This information is shared internally with the democratic and elections team in order to produce committee reports relating to the specific licence application. The main bulk of the representation will be included in the report, including your name and address.

Only other personal information such as telephone numbers and email addresses will be removed. These committee reports will then be further shared with the councillors sitting on the committee making the decision on that application and externally with NPLaw, the council's solicitors. The reports, including your representation, will also be published on our website and available for the public to view.

Apart from where previously stated, we do not pass your details to third parties unless we are lawfully able to do so for the prevention and detection of crime and fraud, or for the collection of taxes.
