Star ratings

After inspection, your business will get a star rating from 1 to 5, based on welfare standards and risk level. New businesses may get a lower rating at first.

There will be at least one unannounced visit during your licence period.

Appeal or request a new rating

If you’re unhappy with your rating, you can appeal within 21 days by email or post. We’ll respond within 21 days.

If you’ve made improvements, you can ask for a reinspection:

Request a reinspection for rerating purposes

This will happen within 3 months. The rating may go up, down, or stay the same. Make sure all issues from the last inspection are fixed before requesting.

There is a fee for this service.
