What is an operator?
An operator is the person or company that takes bookings from customers. Even if you don’t drive the vehicle yourself, you still need a licence to take bookings.
Before you apply
Make sure:
- you have a business address within Norwich City Council’s area
- the business must be operated from this address
- you must keep booking records and show them to the council if asked
What you need to apply
- £911 fee
- proof of your right to work in the UK (e.g. a share code)A tax check code (if you’ve had a licence before or are renewing)
The council will also check with the planning department to make sure your business address is suitable.
How long does the licence last?
The licence is valid for 5 years.
Important notes
A private hire driver can’t take bookings unless they are licensed and work for a licensed operator.
