Before you apply
Make sure your vehicle meets these rules:
- first-time applications: your vehicle must be less than 5 years old (from its first DVLA registration).
- vehicle checks:
- if your vehicle is under 10 years old, it needs a check once a year.
- if it’s 10 years or older, it must be checked every 6 months.
- timing: your vehicle inspection must be done within 6 weeks before you apply.
Documents you need to upload
- V5 registration certificate
- insurance (must cover taxi or private hire use)
- MOT certificate (if needed)
- vehicle inspection sheet
- meter test certificate (for taxis only)
- LOLER certificate (if needed)
How to apply
- upload your documents and pay the fee
- applications are processed in the order they’re received
- it may take up to 6 weeks to process your application

If you're licensing multiple vehicles from the same location, you may need planning permission.

Please note that due to our production process, plates and badges will require a minimum of two working days before they are ready for collection.
