B. Pond life

Mousehold Heath is more or less waterless, apart from ‘Vinegar Pond’ and smaller ‘Mustard Pond’. They are underlain by water-retentive clay layers but tend to evaporate in summer. However they are a vital resource for birds, frogs and other animals in this otherwise waterless area.
