Protecting trees in Norwich
Norwich City Council can protect important trees by placing a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) on them. This usually happens if a tree is at risk and is important to the local area or landscape. You can request a new tree preservation order if you feel that a tree should be protected. There is no charge for this.
If you own a protected tree, you are responsible for looking after it and any damage it may cause. But you must get permission from the council before doing most types of work on it.
It is against the law to cut down, damage, or destroy a protected tree without permission. If you do, you could be fined and may have to plant a new tree.
Trees in conservation areas are also protected. You must tell the council before doing any work on them.
Objecting to a TPO
You must do so within 28 days of the notice being issued. Please send your objection to the case officer listed on the letter and send to the details below.
