Why we are asking

We would like to hear your views to ensure our work on improving equality is informed by local people’s priorities. This online survey forms part of a wider piece of work around equality, diversity and inclusion. 

This work includes the council’s:

• Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy: how we work to best meet everyone’s needs and improve outcomes for all
• Citizen Participation Blueprint: how we listen to and work alongside residents effectively
• Allocation of shared prosperity funding – money from central government which aims to build pride in place and increase life chances by focusing on three investment priorities: communities and place; supporting local business; and people and skills.

In addition to this survey, organisations that represent specific communities within the city will be carrying out community conversations and reporting back to us.

Next steps

Your answers to this survey are anonymous. The overall results will be shared with colleagues throughout the council, to help them to be more inclusive in their planning. 

A summary of the consultation will be included in the revised Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy for 2023-26 so you can see how your feedback will help to shape our future plans and activities. 

As with our Corporate Plan, we will review the progress we make and update the strategy’s action plan each year. 

Progress will be published as part of our annual equality information report which will be reported to cabinet each January ahead of the annual budget so the council’s strategic approach continues to influence how our resources are spent.

Other ways to engage with us

The council is seeking to engage residents and representatives from voluntary, community, social enterprises and local businesses to form a database of willing Community Consultants. 

Members would be able to select the topics they have lived experience of, are experts in or are passionate about, and the type of engagement they are able to undertake such as small focus groups with officers, large scale discussion groups or simply online surveys and ideas forums. 

This will form a bank of people from who officers can make contact with when they would like to get more in-depth local views on key topics ahead of project development or service designing. If you would like to be involved, please see details when you have completed the survey.  

For those not wanting to be on a specific list but wanting to input further, there will still be in person and online public forums for discussion including on Get Talking Norwich and local events.
