How the Vision for Norwich was created

Creating a long-term vision for Norwich started with listening. Through a wide range of conversations and events, people from across the city shared their hopes, concerns and ideas - helping to shape the themes that will guide Norwich toward 2040.

We started shaping the vision for Norwich by talking to people across the city - including residents, businesses, community groups, and organisations. We wanted to understand what people love about Norwich, what challenges they see, and what kind of city they hope to live in by 2040.

Here’s how we gathered those ideas:

  • Focus groups with residents, visitors, city council staff and councillors (Oct 2017 – Jan 2018)
  • A city-wide conference (Nov 2017)
  • Public consultation alongside the city budget (Nov 2017 – Jan 2018)
  • Interviews with key stakeholders (Jan – Mar 2018)
  • An online survey for young people aged 11–25 (Mar 2018)
  • A youth conference for 11–25 year olds (May 2018)

From these conversations, five key themes emerged - along with some immediate priorities that people felt needed attention.
