Norwich City Council uses drones (Unmanned Aerial Systems) to undertake site surveys, GIS mapping, infrastructure inspections and environmental monitoring. The lawful basis for processing is Article 6(1)(e) UK GDPR, as a performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the Council.
What we will do with your data?
While the purpose of our surveys is to collect information about land, assets and infrastructure, drone imagery may incidentally record individuals, vehicles and neighbouring properties. Any personal data captured will be processed only where necessary for the stated purposes and handled in accordance with data protection legislation.
How will we share your data?
Survey information is accessed only by authorised personnel and approved contractors working on the Council's behalf. Data will be retained in accordance with the Council's retention schedule and securely deleted when no longer required.
What are your rights?
You have the right to request access to your personal information to:
- ask for errors to be corrected
- restrict how your information is used
- object to how it is processed
- request that your data is deleted
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office if you are not happy with how your data is processed.
