What happens when a notice is issued
Allotment inspections and notices

Find out when your plot will be inspected, what the inspectors look for and what to do if you are issued a notice.

Re-inspections happen at least 28 days after the notice is sent. For weed or cultivation issues, the notice stays active for up to 3 months. For other issues, it stays active until the problem is fixed.

If you’ve made good progress but haven’t fully resolved the issue, you may get a second notice. If nothing has changed, your tenancy could be ended.

Important: Just strimming or tidying isn’t enough. You need to show clear improvement. If you’re using weed control methods, use black plastic or weed matting — not carpet.

Struggling to keep up?

If your plot is too big (e.g. 250m²), you can ask to split it into a smaller plot. A 125m² plot is easier to manage and still great for growing.

Need more time?

If you’re ill or have personal reasons that make it hard to work your plot, let us know before your re-inspection date.

In special cases, like illness or bereavement, we may give you extra time. If you need more time to remove waste, we can arrange that too — but you must agree it with us in advance.
