What you need to know
- Renew before your licence expires – this keeps you legally on the road while your new licence is being processed.
- Allow at least 6 weeks for your application to be reviewed.
- You must already hold a driver licence from Norwich City Council to renew a vehicle licence.
Vehicle checks
- Under 10 years old: needs a check once a year.
- 10 years or older: needs a check every 6 months.
- Important: Your inspection must be done within 6 weeks of your renewal date.
Documents you’ll need to upload
Make sure you have digital copies of these ready:
- V5 registration certificate
- Insurance (must cover private or public hire)
- MOT certificate (if applicable)
- Vehicle inspection sheet
- Meter test certificate (for taxis only)
- LOLER certificate (if applicable)
How to renew
You will need to upload your documents and pay the fee.
If your licence has already expired, you’ll need to apply as if it’s a new licence.
